On this “Hiking/trekking in Georgia” tour, you’ll see Europe’s highest inhabited village, with its incomparable “tower houses”, and you’ll hike through the mountains of the High Caucasus. Then relax in a seaside resort on the Black Sea. Finally, visit a troglodyte town and discover the spa town of Borjomi.
This program takes you from the highest mountains in Europe to a dip in the waters of the Black Sea, all topped off with visits to breathtaking sites: Rabati Castle, Vardzia Caves, ….
There will be several types of walk: mainly in the mountains of the Upper Caucasus, but also in botanical gardens, in the city of Tbilisi, in Borjomi Park. Discover by walking” will be the slogan.

Lunch at the hotel, followed by a tour of Tbilisi. Visit Sameba Cathedral and the flea market. Take the funicular up to Mtatsminda and dine in a gourmet restaurant with breathtaking panoramic views over the whole of Tbilisi.

You’ll visit the Narikhala fortress, created in the 4th century and considerably enlarged since then by the Umayyads, King David the Builder, and then destroyed by the Mongols. It overlooks Tbilisi and the Mtkvari river, offering panoramic views of Tbilisi. Lunch in the historic center of Tbilisi. You’ll stroll through the maze of the old town, a veritable jewel of architecture and layout, with its carved wooden balconies, winding cobbled streets… old Tbilisi is both an Oriental city and a medieval European town. Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Tbilisi. Visit Djvari, a 6th-century Georgian Orthodox monastery overlooking 3 arms of the rivers that meet. Then discover the ancient capital of Mtskheta. The spiritual heart of Georgia, a Unesco World Heritage site. then transfer to the troglodyte site of Ouplitsikhe, home to the first populations of the Caucasus before becoming a strategic stop on the Silk Road. Journey to the town of Kutaissi.
Dinner in Kutaissi and overnight in a 3* hotel.

Transfer to Zugdidi. Visit to the Dadiani palace in Zugdidi.

Transfer to Mestia, a Unesco World Heritage town. Its 11th-century tower-houses, which served both as dwellings and watchtowers, are one of the main attractions of this region (Svanetia). Some are 25 metres high. A must-see!

Hike to the Koruldi lakes above Mestia, offering panoramic views of the surrounding sharp Caucasian peaks.

Hike to the Shkara glacier. On this day, you’ll see some superb scenery. On the way back to Ushguli, you’ll visit the LAMARIA church.

Hiking in the Borjomi Karagulie regional park, spa town. Borjomi water is renowned throughout Russia for its healing properties. This thermal spring water has a very neutral ph and is drawn from a depth of 800 meters.
Transfer to Rabati and visit this 13th-century military building. The fortress had been destroyed several times, often during sieges, as a result of which it had absorbed traces of different cultures and religions. In 2012, a major restoration took place, after which the Rabati fortress in Akhaltsikhe was transformed into a city within a city.View of the Caucasus mountains!

Transfer to the troglodyte town of Vardzia. In 1185, Queen Tamar assumed the throne of Georgia. To protect herself from Mongol invasions, she had the town of Vardzia dug out.

Transfer to Tbilisi. Stop at Poka monastery. We’ll enjoy magnificent views of Lake Paravani. Visit the 11th-century monastery and a small Pokani workshop where you can see enamels prepared by the monks.

Depart Tbilisi for the “Georgian Military Road”, the only natural route linking the Caucasus from south to north. Stop at the fortified ecclesiastical complex of Ananouri, with its churches and defensive tower enclosed in a fortress overlooking Lake Jinvali. Stop off at the Russo-Georgian Friendship Monument, where you can take in the breathtaking scenery.

Hike to the church of Guergueti. This church, with Mount Kazbek (5200m) in the background, is one of Georgia’s most famous viewpoints. You’ll take some great photos and enjoy this memorable vantage point.
