Europe’s highest inhabited village with its incomparable “tower-houses”, rest in a seaside resort on the Black Sea, troglodyte village.
In this program “Sea and mountain travel in Georgia”, you’ll go from the highest mountains in Europe to a swim in the waters of the Black Sea, all enhanced by visits to breathtaking sites: Rabati Castle, Vardzia Caves (a thousand-year-old troglodyte town), …. Visits to Svanetia (the towns of Mestia and Ushguli) are not possible during the winter months, due to the region’s inaccessibility due to snow cover (2200 m altitude).
This trip to Georgia will introduce you to the history of this country and its invasions by visiting troglodyte towns, marvelling at Europe’s highest mountains and enjoying seaside resorts on the Black Sea. A journey of contrasts at a pleasant pace

Transfer to the Prometheus caves, 1600m long and 2000 m deep (the deepest caves in the world!). Boat tour of the caves.
Transfer to Mestia, a Unesco World Heritage site. The town’s 11th-century tower-houses, which served both as dwellings and watchtowers, add to the charm of the region (Svanetia). Some are 25 meters high. Lunch en route.

You’ll head for Zugdidi for lunch.
Afterwards, you’ll visit the Palace of the Princes Dadiani in Zugdidi (Princess Dadiani was the wife of Joachim MURAT).
Finally, you’ll head for Georgia’s main seaside town on the Black Sea: Batumi.
There’s plenty of free time for swimming, shopping, strolling along the waterfront and more.

You’ll have a free morning to relax and enjoy the beach!
You’ll then visit the Gonio fortress, 15 minutes from Batumi, a Roman fortress on the Black Sea already mentioned by Pliny the Elder. It is said to house the tomb of the apostle Saint Mathias, who is believed to be inside the fortress.
Then lunch at a beachside restaurant. Then visit the Batumi botanical garden created by Alexis Krasnov, who wanted to create a Russian Riviera here.
You’ll end your visit to Georgia with a trip to Kutaissi.

Transfer to Borjomi and visit the town and its famous sparkling water springs. Lunch in Borjomi.
Transfer to Rabati Castle. And visit this 13th-century military building. The fortress had been destroyed several times, often during sieges, as a result of which it had absorbed traces of different cultures and religions. In 2012, a major restoration took place, after which the Rabati fortress in Akhaltsikhe was transformed into a city within a city.View of the Caucasus mountains!

Visit the troglodyte town of Vardzia. In 1185, Queen Tamar assumed the throne of Georgia. To protect itself from Mongol invasions, the town of Vardzia was dug into the cliffside.
Vardzia is a complex of caves and historic buildings. It is considered one of the country’s architectural gems. A visit to Vardzia will allow you to discover the many caves carved into the cliffs, as well as the various historic buildings including monasteries, churches and halls.
Lunch in Vardzia on the banks of the Mtqvari river (otherwise known as Koura) before heading back to Kutaissi.
Dinner in Kutaissi and overnight in a 3* hotel.
